Probably the best known of all German World War II Warships. She sank the HOOD in the Denmark Strait 24th May 1941 and was herself destroyed three days later by a combination of air strikes by F.A.A; aircraft which slowed her allowing RODNEY and KING GEORGE V to destroy her as an effective unit with gunfire; she was finally torpedoed by the Cruiser DORSETSHIRE.
