NEW UPDATES - NEW PRODUCT(S)

To start this month, we want to update you on the progress of the 1/72nd scale Bismarck Hull being developed.  The latest news is that the plug is nearly complete and the plan is to have the first Hulls from the mold by this time next month.  A laser cut plywood deck is also underway and should be ready at the same time as the Hull.  A superstructure set and fittings set are in the early stages of development and are expected to be ready by the end of the year.  We will provide further updates as they become available.

We have added MORE Scale Crew Figures to both websites.  The 1/24th section has been expanded and a group of 1/96 Scale Figures has also been added.  We are on the trail of additional suppliers and as more becomes available we will post them on the sites.

For those interested in Plans – we have secured rights to a new line including many ships from the US and Canadian Coast Guard, NOAA, US Navy and Pacific Northwest Fishing Fleet.  The first three (3) Plans available now are:  USCG 32’ PWB Ports & Waterways, Lightship San Francisco, and the USRC Golden Gate.  They are now available on Taubmans Website.

Finally, we have news for all of the PT Boat fanatics.  By early October, a 1/24 Scale Semi-Kit of the 80’ Elco will be available.  This will be for a PT in the 486 to 563 range and will include a fiberglass hull and cast resin cabin.  There will also be an extensive cast resin fittings set and plans included.  All the builder will have to supply is wood for the deck and the running hardware all of which we can supply for you.  Further details and pricing will be available next month.

NEARING EVENTS

For those of you near the Buffalo, NYToronto, Ontario region, the national hobby show of Canada will be held on Nov. 4, 5 & 6 at the international center outside of Toronto.  This is a great show with every form of hobby represented.  The local boat clubs set up a pool and run demonstrations every two (2) hours all weekend long.  An event not to be missed for sure.  Also in the same area, two (2) weeks earlier will be the Great Lakes Model Boat Association Annual Awards Banquet.  This is an all day event held on October 22nd in St. Catherines, Ontario Canada.  The event includes many presentations by various speakers, a trip to the warehouse of the Canadian Distributor for Naval Institute Press Books, and an Evening Banquet with hundreds of raffle & door prizes.

TIP(S) OF THE MONTH

As we will be starting our Tug building project this month, I thought this would be a good time to review some basic safety tips.

  1. Always make sure to wear eye protection when working with power tools, torches or soldering irons.
  2. Make sure you have plenty of ventilation as many of the glues, paints and fillers used gibe off some nasty and dangerous fumes as they cure.
  3. Remember that worn and/or damaged Tools can be dangerous.  A dull knife requires more force to use which many times translates into a greater chance of the knife going off course and finding your fingers. (Or Worse) A Screwdriver with a worn blade tends to jump out of the screw head and damage whatever is nearby.  A properly sharpened blade stays put.
  4. Make sure you have plenty of light and a clean uncluttered work area to help prevent unexpected accidents.
  5. As a last thought, considering the number of different tasks being done, it would not be a bad idea to have a fire extinguisher and first aid kit handy.

Remember to check out the websites regularly as we are doing updates daily at this point.

We are also in the process of producing another Book.  Building & Understanding R/C Boats Volume II.  This book will fill in the areas missed by Volume I and cover a few additional topics with more detail and pictures.

Happy Labor Day,

Don & Renee
