While on the subject of Plans, we are additionally adding dozens of new Plans to the website weekly, so be sure to check back regularly.

DELAYING A MONTH

A few of our readers that have been closely following our Westbourne Project have asked us to slow down while they catch up.  This is actually a lucky break for us as Don has been so busy with the purchase of Photomarine Archives he has not had the time to spend at the work bench.  As one of the prime goals of this newsletter is to help educate we felt it only fair to at least provide a "Helpful Hint" section here.

HELPFUL HINT

While Don was straining his brain to think of a useful hint a call came in from a customer who was very frustrated trying to solder the leads from the motor noise suppression capacitors to the motor case.  Nothing was working for him and in the end he had applied so much heat that the end bell started to melt.  (Plastic Endbell).  Luckily, the motor was not ruined but he still did not have a good solder joint.  So the question was, how does he make the connection he needs without wrecking the motor?  There are at least 2 ways that I know of.  The easiest, cleanest and most straight forward method is to trap the capacitor lead under the head of one of the mounting bolts.  this is assuming the mounting bolt is metal and that it threads into the metal part of the motor case.  Another less elegant method is to put a hose clamp or metal band around the body of the motor and then clamp the band around the motor body.  Trap the capacitor lead between the band and a bare spot (paint/anodization removed) on the motor case and you have your connection.  In the case of either of these techniques check the connection occasionally to make sure nothing has vibrated loose.  Hope this helps.
