Passenger Liner. Length 53 inches. At present the United States is moored in Philadelphia - just a mile or two from the Liberty Bell. This ship, the
largest liner ever built in the USA, has been idle since 1969. More
than a million passengers made the voyage on this red, white and blue crowned
beauty.
The ship has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places because
of her "compelling national significance." She carried thousands of
immigrants to new beginnings on America's shores. She embodied the can-do
spirit of post-war America, the object of breathless press coverage in her
day.
