This new fast Battleship was the leading battleship in the French Fast raiding force based at Brest. She were based on the Royal navy Nelson class Battleship. On July 3rd 1940 The Dunkerque was at Mers-el-Kebire when the Royal Naval force attacked, being severely damaged by Gun fire and again badly damaged and partially sunk by Aircraft Torpedo Attack on the 6th July.
