POLYCARBONATE
Where Fiberglass Deck Moldings are not available, Loyalhanna Dockyard can provide polycarbonate sheeting to you. Sheets are .09 (3/32”) in thickness and can be easily cut into shape with a jigsaw, sabersaw or hacksaw.
When cut to Hull Shape, and Deck Openings are cut out, Decking may be primed & painted to represent steel decking.
To obtain pricing for above, examine your drawings & estimate the area needed. Multiply total length & total width (allow sufficient coverage). Then multiply that area by .095 per square inch for yout total cost. (Example: HMS Hood requires 82” x 10” sheet equaling a total of: $ 77.90). If you need help, we will be happy to do the figuring for you, please contact Loyalhanna Dockyard.
CUSTOM CUTTING
For those who lack tools, time or patience, we offer a custom cutting service. Depending on the model, this will be done in either Polycarbonate, Wood or Styrene at the same ptice. Decking will be cut to general hull shape & access openings cut out.
Charge for this service is $ 1.25 per inch of Hull length, added to the material cost as calculated above. As in the example HMS Hood, this would be $ 102.50 plus $ 77.90 equaling $ 180.40. For smaller Hulls, a minimum charge of $ 75.00 (materials included) is applicable.
SCRIBED WOOD- (Note: These Sheets are also available in 1/16” thickness)
Many of the ships in our inventory were fitted with wood-planked decks, especially during the WW II Era. If you wish to apply wood decking to your model, we have scribed wood sheets measuring 3.5 x 24 x 1/32” for that purpose. Examine your drawings to determine the number of sheets required for your particular model. The scribing width is intended to represent a 12 Scale inch plank, and can be ordered in the following sizes:

*We recommend that wood sheets be bonded to polycarbonate decking to provide sufficient stiffness & to avoid warping. We can provide the best adhesive for bonding fiberglass to polycarbonate and polycarbonate to wood.
*For an authentic finish, we recommend tracing each groove with a sharp drafting pencil to represent caulking, then a thin wash of teak stain and finally a coat or two of polyurethane sealer for waterproofing.
*Please note that all Running Gear, Motor & Radio Gear Mountings should be installed in the Hull prior to cementing the Deck in place.
