DUCA DEGLI ABRUZZI – BANANA CARRIER

The ships DUCA Of the ABRUZZI, Captain BOTTEGO and Captain To CECCHI, was constructed in 1933 near the Yards of Eriksberg Mek. Verkstads di Goteborg in Sweden for the Italo-Somala Society and subsequently passed to the Monopoly Bananas Company.  In the course of the conflict they had to be armed with four guns from 102/45 and to be employed like auxiliary cruisers. The first two auto-affondarono in East Africa, while the CECCHI came torpedoed near Bengasi on 8.5.1941.
